For Immediate Release
Birmingham Blogger Unpeels The Big Apple

Established UK professional photographer, and founder of the Channel 4 backed global 4am Project, Karen Strunks launches her latest enterprise. The Big Apple Unpeeled, will document life in New York City through social media from 8th October for one month.

Strunks invites over 3000 online followers to be her virtual traveling companions, asking “Where would you like to visit today?” She intends to deliver up to the minute stories, live feeds, images and interviews via online mediums such as Twitter, YouTube, Foursquare, Qik,
Bambuser, and The Big Apple Unpeeled blog. The project is the first in Strunks’ Cities Of The World series.

At the core of the Big Apple Unpeeled is the desire to offer a collaborative travel journal, providing a close vision of New York City to anyone, anywhere in the world who has online access. Expanding on the use of social media, the project uses the latest online applications, taking blogging to a new level.

Karen Strunks is perhaps best known for the global success of her 4am Project. Now funded by Channel 4, the project has attracted the attention of national and international media and participation from hundreds of photographers from 40 countries. A prominent, sought-after photographer, her photography portfolio contains an impressive list of celebrities, including Andrea Bocelli, UB40, The Editors and Joan Armatrading.

A leader and innovator in social media, Strunks gained a reputation for bringing online ideas to life by initiating community participatory events. She was recently invited by Birmingham City University to give a lecture to media students on her use of social media and to participate in a debate panel in a conference about photography.

“The internet is bringing us into an exciting new arena, allowing people to connect and observe remotely and collectively across the miles. Despite traveling solo, my friends and followers online will be virtually ‘walking beside me’ enabling them to experience the sights and sounds and interact with my journey. The Big Apple Unpeeled will show the ‘pips n all’ of NYC and I look forward to sharing the journey”, Strunks said.
